Updated: Chasing the Owl - Wax predictions and details on our wax service for this weekend.

Updated wax test results for the Owl Creek Chase inside...

BNS is once again testing waxes and waxing race skis for the Owl Creek Chase.  Nathan tested wax, grinds and ski stiffness at three different sections of the course Friday morning.  He will be race waxing skis for the Owl Creek Chase on Saturday.  Get your skis to us between 5:00PM and 5:30PM Friday at the Aspen Touring Center.  Details and test results inside.

Conditions on the course are soft with lots of fresh snow being churned up during the constant grooming they are doing on the course now.  The track at the start and middle section of the race is quite soft with much harder track at the Finish.  The forecast is calling for a 50% chance of more snow with increasing humidity and cooler temps overnight.

Here are the results from the testing today:

Swix: LF6 base layer beat HF4, LF4, HF7, HF6 and HF4BD.  FC1 corked in as a top layer was a large improvement.  FC7 was not fast.
Toko: HF Blue was clearly better than all other Toko waxes. The HIgh Speed Moly Rub On was an improvement, but not a dramatic one.
Start: SG8 (Start Green) and HF80 Green were both good base layers, but LF6 and Toko Blue seemed a bit faster.
Other: Solda HP05 powder mixed with S30 70/30 as a top coat was not good.

Grinds: ZR1 and Z40XL were fastest in the speed trap and were very close.  Z40XL felt better on the golf course.  LL26 was also quite good at acceleration but not as free at top speed.  A few athletes reported Q1.3 as going well on the golf course, but it was too aggressive at the start and was pretty far behind the lighter grinds

Ski Selection: SOFT skis were best today and will probably be best tomorrow unless it clears up tonight and does not snow which would harden up the track substantially.

Nathan will be putting on a Swix wax clinic at the Aspen Touring Center at 5:30 on Friday.
