First off, The Devil's Thumb Camp is go. We have been receiving lots of phone calls from concerned campers and we want to let you know that despite the warm weather, conditions are still good and the camp is 100% go. Bring your rock skis as conditions are still early season.
West Yellowstone has been a blur. Packing up an entire service shop, stone grinder and staff to run the operation was quite an undertaking. We met Zach Caldwell here and set up Monday, finished our first batch of 80+ skis Tuesday night and Wednesday we will repeat more of the same. There are a lot of people here and everyone is excited about the start of ski season.
Our shop inside Yellowstone Snowmobile Rentals is amazing. We are right across the street from the trails and we have a lot of space to work with. The biggest challenge is managing 100 pairs of skis all at once. We have built 25 feet of wall racks, plus our mobile rack which holds 75 pairs of skis and the heat box which we filled to capacity for the first time at 75 pairs. We added 4 new shelves to take it up to 75 pairs, but we just can't fit any more in there.
Zach has been drawing crowds with his metal scraping skills. He has filled a 30-gallon trash can with P-tex peels. His work is dead-on and we are cranking through skis very fast with him on the metal scraper with Peter and me We are accepting skis for stone grinding up until Thursday evening and here is our schedule while we are here:
