Amy's Report from Finland
We have the majority of the team here in Viermaku, Finland for a camp before the World Jr / U23 Championships start next week in Otepaa, Estonia. Viermaku is a small town about 130 km northeast of Helsinki. We are staying in a huge new hotel called the Scandic that has a number of great looking golf courses around and is very close to some sort of sports academy.
We have ski trails right out our door. The terrain is very easy which is a good way to ensure that everyone is able to keep the training easy and get adjusted to the time change. The weather the last 2 days has been right around 0 C, so we are using a combination of klister and rub skis. Both appear to be working and depends more on the ski than the wax. We will head to Lahti on Friday and Saturday to ski the World Cup courses which will give our athletes more challenging terrain and a chance to see a real ski stadium with stadium seating just for ski racing.
The only other exciting news here is that the US team pulled out a big win against Canada in the Nations Cup bowling tournament last night. I didn't see the Canadians on the trails this morning so my guess is that they stayed back to work on their skills on the lanes.
I will try to take some pictures at the Lahti venue.
