Lapham Loppet 11km Freestyle

Delafield, WI

11am Saturday, 1/22/11.  Mass start, single loop.  Held at Lapham Peak, near Delafield, WI.  Lapham Peak received 4 inches of new snow Sunday and Monday, covering the thin spots on the race course.  Now the trail has great coverage, and the new snow has packed well.

Weather Forecast (NOAA):  Friday night, cloudy with a low around 0 degrees, with a 40 percent chance of snow.  Saturday, cloudy with a high near 16 with chance of flurries.

The snow will be cold, and there may even be new snow.  Hardening the base will be important, and can be done with graphite wax such as SkiGo LF Graphite.  On top of that, a hard paraffin such as SkiGo Green can be mixed with SkiGo C380, which is a synthetic glide powder.

FORECAST BASED RECOMMENDATION:

Base layer: SkiGo LF Graphite.

Race paraffin:  SkiGo HF Green mixed with SkiGo C380 or SkiGo C380 applied alone, ironed in much like you would a fluoro layer.

Fluoro powder:  Consider Holmenkol Cold Powder or Block, SkiGo C105 Powder or Block.  SkiGo C22 solid can also work well in very cold snow.

Topcoat:  Putting a cold application on top of the heated fluoro layer can provide optimal speed.  Look at SkiGo C105 or C22 solid, or Holmenkol Cold Block.

note: BNS imports Holmenkol and SkiGo waxes, and also sells waxes from Swix, Toko, Rode, Solda, Rex, Guru, Innovax, Magnar and others. We search for the fastest waxes for our customers and our testing is professional, objective and transparent. We make our best effort to test what we think is the best from each brand.  However, given that we are testing more options from Holmenkol and SkiGo, there is a bias toward those brands.  With this full disclosure, you can assess the legitimacy of our testing yourself. Visit Swix and Toko for their official recommendations. If you have any questions please contact us.
