BNS at the Govenor’s Cup

(I will be updating this post with a weather report and wax recommendation. Check back!)

Boulder Nordic Sport is looking forward to the 24th annual Govenor’s Cup at Devil’s Thumb ranch on January 22nd.

Nathan, Chris, and Lenka will be strapping on the race boards while Zach and Eric will be helping prep skis. Zach has been entertaining thoughts of racing so we’ll see about that. I heard Chris say he was thinking of it as going out for a ski with a bib on so we’ll see about that too. Allison is fearfully looking forward to 30k, her longest race ever in preparation for doing the Birkie later this year.

The Govenor’s Cup has been established as one of the premier ski races in Colorado, it will be nice to get out of the shop and do the fun part of the job.

Waxing Services

A couple of our regular customers will be heading up and we will be waxing some skis for them as well. It’s always nice to help out and get people on the fastest skis we can.

If you are interested you can drop your skis off at BNS before Friday at noon and we will deliver them to you at DTR on race morning. Underlayers will be applied in advance, but we will test and apply the final layers on race morning.

$39 for HF wax, $79 for full-fluoro action.

Also, we have our regular Thursday night wax clinic this week. We will do a short presentation and then have open waxing for those who would like to get their skis ready for the race. Bring your skis, hang out and wax up. We'll have benches and tools; you supply (or buy) wax. We’ll be happy to give you the best tips we can.

Weather (NOAA.gov)

Tonight: Areas of blowing snow and a slight chance of snow after 11pm. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 15. West wind between 7 and 11 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Saturday: Snow and areas of blowing snow. High near 25. Blustery, with a west northwest wind between 15 and 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Wax Recommendation -

Chris Phenice tested a few different paraffins and powders this morning. We recommend the following based on his findings. If you do not have Matrix Blue then SkiGo HF Blue, Swix HF6, or Toko HF Blue would be other options.

Base Layer: SkiGo LF Graphite

Race Paraffin: Holmenkol Matrix Blue

Fluoro Powder: Holmenkol Mid 08 Powder

Top Coat: BNS will be testing top coats in the morning. Please swing by our bench for a recommendation.

BNS will have a table set up and will be testing race morning. Come by to get our latest test results and recommendations.

Event info including registration, course, maps, start times, etc

note: BNS imports Holmenkol and SkiGo waxes, and also sells waxes from Swix, Toko, Rode, Solda, Rex, Guru, Innovax, Magnar and others. We search for the fastest waxes for our customers and our testing is professional, objective and transparent. We make our best effort to test what we think is the best from each brand.  However, given that we are testing more options from Holmenkol and SkiGo, there is a bias toward those brands.  With this full disclosure, you can assess the legitimacy of our testing yourself. Visit Swix and Toko for their official recommendations. If you have any questions please contact us.
