Wolverine Ski Challenge, Ironwood Michigan

The forecast calls for cold nights all weekend.  The conditions on Friday were cold and dry snow.  Even with temperatures warming in the afternoon on Friday, the snow stayed relatively cold, around 10 degrees F.  Races are a 5-10k Skate on Saturday and 5-10k Classic on Sunday.  Start times are early, 9AM and 10AM.

Weather –

Friday Night:  Mostly clear, with a low around -3. Wind chill values between -10 and -15. West wind between 5 and 10 mph.


Saturday: Mostly sunny, with a high near 23. Wind chill values between -5 and -15. Southwest wind between 5 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Saturday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 14. Wind chill values between zero and 5. Southwest wind between 10 and 15 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 36. Wind chill values between zero and 10. Southwest wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

Recommendation

We recommend the following:

Base Layer: Ski*Go LF Graphite

Race Paraffin: Toko HF Blue with Toko Cold Powder or Ski*Go C380

Fluoro Powder: Rex TK 820

Top Coat: Bill Pierce will be testing top coats in the morning before the race and will be available on site to share his results.

CONCLUSIONARY NOTES – BNS will have a table set up and will be testing top coats, hand structure, and kick wax at the race venue. Come by to get our latest test results and recommendations.

Testing Discussion – Bill Pierce was on site at race time on Friday testing base layers and powders.  His testing was done by feel.  Conditions were cold and dry, similar to the forecast for the weekend.
