Wax Report from US Nationals Sprint

BNS had a very successful day yesterday with Ski*Go waxes in the skate sprint at Nationals in Rumford.  The conditions in the morning during testing were hard and fast after a night of cold temperatures.  Conditions stayed fast all day with only the up hills turning powdery and icy underneath with use.

We ran three different tests before the sprint preliminary round.   In our morning paraffin test we had a clear winner of Ski*Go HF Orange/Green Premix.  Holmenkol Matrix Black/Blue also ran well.  In our powder test the two best powders were Holmenkol Mid and Cold.  However, all the powders did not test as well as Ski*Go C55/99, the one liquid that we tested against the powders.   In our topcoats test a combination of Ski*Go CM10 and C55/99 Liquid was a very close second to a Ski*Go test liquid that we had in the test.

The CM10 and C55/99 combination got faster during our tests throughout the day and was used on our athlete’s skis during the rounds.  We applied this combination by rubbing on a thin layer of CM10 and applying the C55/99 directly over the top.  We let this sit for about two minutes before either ironing or rubbing in with a cork, depending on the time we had to apply.  After another 15 minutes we brushed aggressively with  a nylon brush.

It is interesting to note how similar our testing results from yesterday were to the testing results from last Sunday in much different conditions.  Our explanation for this is that temperature and humidity alone are not the only variables to look at when selecting wax, snow type can also be an important factor.  We have always had success with Ski*Go topcoats in the aggressive man-made snow here in Rumford and most likely will continue to have good luck with them throughout the rest of the week.

We are also excited to have found a new combination with CM10 and C55/99 Liquid.  It was clear that it was very fast yesterday; this topcoat took three of the top five spots in the men’s sprint rounds.
