Wax Report from the US Nationals Skate Distance Races
Rumford, ME
BNS had another successful day with Ski*Go waxes in the 10k and 15k skate races at US Nationals in Rumford. The conditions were drier in the morning than the previous days, but our test results from before the race were not much different from two days ago when Ski*Go waxes ran consistently well.
We tested paraffins early in the morning before the race and made the decision to go with Ski*Go HF Orange/Green Premix. This was not a surprise winner, we made this wax choice in the sprint race with good results. In our powder test Ski*Go C55/99 Liquid once again beat the powders, with Ski*Go C44/7 Powder coming in second. For topcoats we had a similar result from Tuesday, our combination of Ski*Go CM10 block and C55/99 Liquid has been hard to beat all week. We also ran a ski with C44/7 Powder underneath the CM10 and C55/99 combination, and this ski felt very similar to the straight combination. For the race we decided to include the powder underneath the top coat combination in the interest of durability.
For our race skis we started with a layer of Ski*Go LF Graphite covered with the HF Orange/Green Premix. Then we applied a layer of C44/7 powder with an iron and let sit for 10 minutes before brushing. For the top coat combination we once again rubbed a light layer of CM10 and applied the C55/99 Liquid over the top. This was ironed together and brushed after sitting for 15 minutes.
We had great feedback from the athletes on our wax. Our topcoat choice went 1st, 3rd, and 4th in the men’s 15k race.
