Wax Report from the US Nationals 20k and 30k Classic Mass Start
Rumford, ME
The conditions in yesterday’s 20k and 30k classic mass start races were a change from the past two races, but once again BNS had good luck with Ski*Go glide waxes. Fresh snow in the tracks mixing with the man-made snow underneath made for a number of choices for kick. We found that the Guru line gave us the best solution for kick and glide under foot.
After our glide testing in the morning we choose Ski*Go Orange/Green Premix for our base paraffin. We applied this over the top of two layers of Ski*Go LF graphite for increased durability. In our powder test Ski*Go C44/7 was the best. We applied this under two ironed layers Ski*Go C22 Liquid. The powder liquid combination we felt was important for the length of the race.
For kick we applied a thin layer of Rode Chola for a binder layer. We heated this layer and wiped it clean to make it as thin and tacky as possible. After cooling the binder we applied a thin layer of Guru Extreme 39 Hard klister. We then covered the klister with two layers of Guru Extreme Hallgeir and one layer of Rode Weiss.
"It was a tough day to balance kick with a free gliding ski. Our wax combination did this perfectly," said Roger Knight. Once again our glide wax had great success yesterday, our topcoat combination took the top spot on the podium in the men's 30k race.
