US Nationals concluded on Sunday with the classic sprint in Rumford. Waxing conditions were tricky in the morning with temperatures in the low thirties and a layer of freezing rain overnight.
Our glide tests were not much of a surprise, Ski*Go glide waxes have been running well all week and we expected more of the same. In our paraffin tests Ski*Go HF Orange/Green Premix was again our winner. In our top coat test we choose straight Ski*Go CM10.
For kick we tested different wax combinations, straight hardwax skis, klister covered skis, and straight klister skis. Initially we liked straight Guru Extreme Hallgeir hardwax for kick and glide. Our other test skis felt slow and not as free. As the tracks were skied in and the sun came out the klister covered skis became a better choice for kick. Our final race wax was a thin layer of Guru Extreme 39 Hard klister covered with Guru Extreme Hallgeir.
For application we first ironed in a layer of Ski*Go LF Graphite. We covered this with a second paraffin layer of Ski*Go HF Orange/Green Premix. For a top coat we rubbed on and ironed a layer of Ski*Go CM10. We followed this with one more corked layer of CM10. For kick we applied a very thin layer of Guru Extreme 39 Hard to a well sanded kick zone. We then let the klister fully harden in the cold. The klister was then covered with thin layers of Guru Extreme Hallgeir and corked lightly.
In conclusion we had a great week of testing and waxing. Our revelation of the week was Ski*Go CM10, a wax that we found to be much broader in range than we initially thought. This wax was used to win multiple national championships this week and we are looking forward to future testing.
