Some photos of LUST Custom Nordic Boots; Stampede Predictions and Specials

Conditions look great for this weekend's Snow Mountain Stampede.  We also had a customer bring in a pair of custom LUST racing ski boots to check out.

We're still recovering from the Birkie, but very excited to have some good snow for this week's Snow Mountain Stampede.  Note that the Colorado Cup scored race is the 42km CLASSIC, so if you want Co Cup points, pull out the classic boards.

The forecast looks great - snow all week with Friday night lows around 10F climbing to about 15 by race start.  Cloud cover is predicted at this point, so the snow should not warm too quickly during the race, making waxing a little bit easier.  At this point we're going to call Swix LF6 and Extra Blue as the waxes.  Stay tuned as we will get more information later in the week and be testing waxes up there.  We have a bunch of race wax specials going on this week, so bring your skis by and we will get them ready to go Saturday!  Check out our specials here.

We have been grinding a few pairs of skis for the guys over at LUST Racing and it has been a lot of fun to see the gear they creating.  The boots are amazingly light and the binding system weighs 8g.  That is not a typo - 8grams.  I was surprised when we were feeding the skis through the grinder how light they were.  They compared their boot and binding to a pair of Salomon S-Lab Skate Boots in the same size and came up with savings of about one pound for each foot.

To create the boot, they make a plaster cast of your foot and then mold the carbon fiber shell of the boot around that mold.  The boots we have in these pictures are prototypes, so the cosmetics are not the prettiest.  But here are some really bad photos of the boots.  The system is amazingly simple - a cotter pin goes through the binding pin and a spring hooks onto the bottom of the boot by the heel.

Antonio Marxuach, the Steamboat Stampede winner, says he will never again ski on anything else. He loves them. Looks similar to the system one of the Swedish World Cup guys is using.

Looks like a clap skate. I wonder how they ski. So light.
