Wax updates for Snow Mountain, Yellowstone Rendezvous and Great Race

Winter has returned.  It snowed 3-4 inches during the 2 hours of our training group at Eldora this morning.  ZR1 will be the grind this weekend for skaters, ZR1XL or LL26 Classic.

Snow Mountain Stampede:  The weather forecast has not changed much since we did our first prediction Monday.  Still calling for some snow this week, seasonable temperatures with cold overnight temps keeping the snow relatively dry, cold and fresh through daytime.  We will get some actual wax test results from up there Thursday and have more to tell then.  For now, we're keeping the call at Swix LF6 with Extra Blue as the kick wax.  Straightforward.  For Toko, the best equivalent would probably be LF Moly underneath a layer of LF Blue.  We will keep updating as we learn more, but we should have a really good idea after we test a slew of options Friday morning up there.  We will try to post those results by noon.

Whatever wax you choose, it is smart to start putting on the base layers now and hardening up the bases.  Fresh snow is abrasive and over long distances, you will need to have some hard wax in there to provide durability and speed throughout the race.  Toko or Swix Moly is a good hardener and provides some dry lubrication.  But it would not be a bad idea to put something like Swix LF4 or Start HF Green on as a base layer with the race wax on top.

GRIND CHOICE FOR YELLOWSTONE AND SNOW MOUNTAIN:
ZR1 will be a good choice for skaters with ZR1XL or LL26 for Classic.

The Yellowstone Rendezvous is Saturday and looks very similar to what we'll see at Snow Mountain Ranch - cold, fresh snow.  There may be overnight snow  Overnight lows in the single digits (F) with Race temps in the mid teens (F) warming to mid-twenties.  The snow should stay cold and dry as the sun should not be a big factor.  See the wax recommendation above for Snow Mountain Ranch.  Toko is calling for HF Blue and JetStream.
