BNS Wax Recommendations

Minimize
As racers, coaches and service technicians, we've worked at every level of the sport from local high school races to Olympics and World Championships.  When we launched BNS, one of the first things we did was start publishing wax reports that included multiple brands.  We figured that the while typical wax reports from each company were useful, most racers want to know what wax is fastest - period - not just what is running best from each brand.

These wax reports are our best effort at providing objective, useful information for racers. We import several wax brands including Holmenkol, SkiGo, Guru, Magnar and Gallium, and we sell Swix, Toko, Rex, Rode and Start, among others. We try our best to test as many waxes as possible, but it is just not possible to test everything, and no test is infallible.  With this in mind, we seek full transparency in every one of our recommendations by discussing how we test, what the results are and what we recommend, so you can trust our work and decide for yourself how valuable our recommendations are.  We hope that these reports will be useful to you and help you make fast skis!

Recommendation

We recommend the following:

Base Layer: Ski*Go LF Graphite

Race Paraffin: Ski*Go HF Violet or Holmenkol Matrix Black/Red

Fluoro Powder:  Ski*Go C22 Powder, C44/7 Powder or Holmenkol Mid

Topcoat: BNS will be testing topcoats the morning of the race.  Call our Mobile number 303 656 3886 for details of what we will be testing.

Kick: A hard klister, heated and wiped thin, covered by a blue hardwax.  A combination that could work well is Guru Extreme 39 Hard covered with Ski*Go HF Blue

CONCLUSIONARY NOTES

With a high of 29F a number of powders could be running well.   With a forecast for warm  temperatures the day before and the current conditions of old transformed snow, we would recommend Ski*Go C22 Powder.  C22 can  run fast below its temperature range in such conditions. Ski*Go C44/7 powder could also be fast and is worth testing.  Ski*Go has a number of good topcoats for these conditions including C22 liquid or block, CM10 block, and C55/99 liquid.  These are all worth a test on race morning.   For those with the Holmenkol line we would recommend Mid Powder, with a topcoat of Speedblock Mid.  A less durable but more economical wax job would be to skip the powder layer and go straight to a topcoat.  BNS will have the mobile trailer on site and will be testing topcoats and kickwax the morning of the race.

note: BNS imports Holmenkol and SkiGo waxes, and also sells waxes from Swix, Toko, Rode, Solda, Rex, Guru, Innovax, Magnar and others. We search for the fastest waxes for our customers and our testing is professional, objective and transparent. We make our best effort to test what we think is the best from each brand.  However, given that we are testing more options from Holmenkol and SkiGo, there is a bias toward those brands.  With this full disclosure, you can assess the legitimacy of our testing yourself. Visit Swix and Toko for their official recommendations. If you have any questions please contact us.
